Christie’s to Auction Famed Kelmscott-Goudy Hand Press In the August issue, p IP reprinted a photo of Goudy (courtesy of the Grolier Club), in black tie at Anderson Galleries, posing again with a two-handled form roller as if inking a form. The caption claims this is the press used by William Morris, but it is clearly not. In a Kelmscott book, the decorative borders and large initials are reserved for the opening spread or beginning of a new chapter. The remainder of the pages are quite simple, consisting of text, compactly arranged, per- scott Chaucer when the Chaucer was reprinted in facsimile by the Basilisk Press in.

Kelmscott Press works sought to emulate the look and feel of the books of the Renaissance, which Morris considered the high point of the printed book. Morris reprinted many medieval and Renaissance tales along with his own works and those of his friend Dante Gabriel Rossetti.
